Hornsby Seniors Forge Friendships & Multicultural Bonds

The Hornsby community recently enjoyed two unique events, thanks to our new initiative with the Hornsby Village Hub – Connecting Community.

The first event was a multicultural dinner at the Storey Park Community Centre, which attracted over 70 seniors. The evening provided an opportunity for Hornsby seniors to make new friends and explore diverse cultures.

“We often see seniors over 65 experiencing loneliness, as they are the group most likely to live alone,” said Ian Westmoreland, CEO of Kintsugi Heroes.

“The goal of this event was to create a casual atmosphere where people could connect over dinner and gain a deeper understanding of the many cultures in the Hornsby area.”

The evening featured cultural traditions from India, Spain, and Ukraine, showcased through personal stories, dances, and food:

  • India: Special guest Mala Mehta shared her community experiences while attendees enjoyed Indian samosas with raita. The event also featured Indian dancing, henna painting, and an Indian-themed photo booth.
  • Spain: Spanish artists Toni and Encarna performed traditional dances, with guests savoring authentic paella as the main course.
  • Ukraine: Special guest Olexandra shared her community experiences, and attendees were treated to Ukrainian pancakes and berry dumplings for dessert.

Our thanks to the generous support of sponsors including Sydney North Health Network, Hornsby Village Hub, Justine Suana, and Hornsby Council.

Stories That Matter

The second event offered Hornsby residents and beyond the opportunity to hear incredible tales of resilience from local community members, make new friends and connections, all over a mouth-watering smoked BBQ feast slow-smoked to perfection.

The evening was a sold-out success, with over 50 people enjoying an unforgettable night.

Four local Kintsugi Heroes shared their stories of resilience and how they overcame life’s toughest challenges

The event was hosted at the Smoke Shack BBA Restaurant in Asquith.
